At the beginning of 2022 a rumor was spread about criminalizing Suicide attempts in Egypt. The journalist Hala Sarhan commented: @HalaSarhan: How would they criminalize Suicide! While the suicidical is dying attempted suicide!? Or before or after he just dies?!

As a matter of fact,
Dr Ahmed Abdelzaher, Professor of criminal law at Cairo University, stated in an article that Egyptian penal code has no history of criminalizing attempted suicide. However, the criminal code also punishes for failed suicide attempts or inciting to. Basically, suicide is not subjected under the legal model of murder. Therefore suicidal attempts too are not subjected under the crime of murder and not criminalized.
